how are earthquakes MEASURED and located
Earthquakes have been measured in over 20 different ways over the past century or so. That is because there are so many different factors to consider. Three of the main ways to measure are the Mercalli Scale, the Richter scale and the moment magnitude scale. The way these measure is the level of destruction, the size of the seismic waves and the amount of energy being released. To find the location of an earthquake scientists use an epicenter, the center of an earthquake and to find the location of this scientists use seismic waves and measure the difference of travelling time between the waves.
