How are tsunamis measured?
Tsunamis are measured in a multitude of ways that work together. There are buoys set out in the ocean that detect height and water pressure. There are also ground receivers and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Satellites. Along with these are run up heights. Run up heights is the height of the tsunami as it reaches the shore.
impact on Indonesia
The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami impacted the economy and culture of Indonesia greatly. Effects of the tsunami on economy are billions of dollars for reconstruction, many ports ruined, transportation spots in shambles, and the overall tourist population decreased. The fishing economy was destroyed as well.
On the cultural side of things, the tsunami also could have destroyed many churches, temples of Bali, theatres, businesses, and many more. Their houses and buildings didn't hold up well against the tsunami either. One of the first steps taken after the tsunami hit was to reconstruct communications. Charities and donations were also set up to help them rebuild. Lots of houses were lost as well. In poor, crowded areas the houses are usually made of bamboo, stone, or wood.
